It was only a matter of time before those crazy fools over at
Colorware took their strange voodoo laptop customization rituals to the next level, which has resulted in what some might consider an unholy abomination against his Steveness: the non-Apple emblazoned MacBook Pro. Limited to a run of just a few units, Colorware's custom machined lid still lights up as your classic Mac might, but provides sweet freedom from the oppression of that white upside-down fruit. They've got ten or fewer laptops
on hand built to order for a client at a price unbeknownst to us, so if you're looking to snag one you'd really better be prepared to pull some serious strings (and have the bankbook to prove your love).
P.S. -Next stop: the real-deal
Ceci n'est pas un MacBook Pro?

The fruit hasn't been upside down since.... like .... the pismo powerbook!?
Dustin @ Jul 27th 2006 9:14AM
That looks cool as hell. I'm sure the cost is ridiculous, but this is one Mac I'd actually consider buying. Combine Boot Camp with the lack of a pretentious logo and you've got a computer any PC user could love.
eric dolecki @ Jul 27th 2006 9:25AM
hmm - that looks pretty ugly to me.
z @ Jul 27th 2006 9:25AM
Displaying the 'designer signature' in such a way is a total lack of taste in my opinion...
Fabian Bauhaus @ Jul 27th 2006 9:58AM
Dustin, you're an idiot.
You're probably one of those guys that see an incredibly ugly car and as soon as you realize it's got a BMW logo on it, you shout out: Man, that's one hot car!
Chris @ Jul 27th 2006 10:14AM
This is such a retarded idea! When I'm in a coffee shop or in an airport with my macbook, I want everyone to see and be jealous of my new black and shiny macbook. When you put this over it it just looks like some piece of s*** windows computer!
SubGenius @ Jul 27th 2006 10:15AM
The "pretentious" logo has been replaced by someone's signature?!#*!?
Fabian, I agree. Dustin is an idiot and BMW are hot.
totoro @ Jul 27th 2006 11:04AM
Dustin thinks this is LESS pretentious? With the giant signature of the guy who re-painted your notebook?? Classic.
Kevin Fox @ Jul 27th 2006 11:19AM
Non-pretention would be a matte black notebook with no logo or other markings at all, not even on the keys.
I take it back. That would just be pretention on a higher level.
Wry Cooter @ Jul 27th 2006 12:22PM
This sort of cosmetic hot-rodding is expensive for the individual, but common with Corporations, where the visual change acts as a theft deterrent (its obviously stolen goods, when stolen), and identifying information levels on location.
A new shell or a paint job is peanuts compared to the value of the information on those laptops.
Vide @ Jul 27th 2006 12:57PM
The apple isn't upside down on macbook pros.
It might look good in just black with the apple logo, but that logo and signature just make it look like crap.
Joshi @ Jul 27th 2006 1:32PM
I like the logo - the added color is nice - but the signature is stupid. It throws off the whole simplicity of the design.
I'd take a stock MBP, even if they were the same price.

"Combine Boot Camp with the lack of a pretentious logo and you've got a computer any PC user could love."
While it's true that customization of Windows boxes is more prevalent, your "lack of a pretentious logo" comment is a little bit silly, considering that the Dell machine sitting on the desk in front of me has a large DELL badge in addition to the "Intel Inside" and "Designed for Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP" logos. (In addition to the name of the model, and the CD drive sporting three logos.)
Also, can I take your comment to mean that the general PC crowd is admitting that Apple sells superior hardware and that the only thing stopping them from "switching" is the operating system (understandable) and a desire not to be lumped in with "the cult"!?
Perrey Z. @ Jul 27th 2006 4:12PM
Glossy Black that's so pretty. Unfortunately is a Macbook. Today announcement, tomorrow the paint peeling off reports!
Bryan @ Jul 27th 2006 4:32PM
I've always wanted a custom logo. But by that i mean no logo.
Meltz @ Jul 27th 2006 11:48PM
it IS upside down from the user's perspective with the screen down...but how often is it really viewed like that?
Todd in Taipei @ Jul 28th 2006 2:47AM
pure crap, Apple logo should never be removed, come on....
Jake @ Jul 28th 2006 10:02AM
The people who buy these things will also buy spinner wheels for that virtual BMW.
My TiBook is chipped, peeled and butt-ugly. And it does everything I ask it to. When the time comes, I'll get another, but I won't pay a premium to carry ego-driven advertising, AND a mediocre design. The design is not offensive, but it is meaningless. The signature IS offensive, coming from someone who has no cache. In the end, the Apple is classic - upside down or rightside up.
Sean @ Jul 29th 2006 4:04AM
That signature emblazoned across the case is about as unpretentious as vanity plates...WTF Dustin?!?

Hasn't anyone ever heard of self-expression? I've modded the hell out of my PC and Apple notebooks, in doing which I also modded the Apple logo(lots of small cuts and sand paper). On my PC notebook, I replaced most of the "shell" or casing with a fogged acrylic(e.g. what makes the logo on the apples glow evenly) and ran off of the internal fan's power for the LEDs. Let me tell you, it looks bitchen, and it totally reflects your personality. I'm the kinda guy that took the xbox motherboard out of the original case the first day I got it, and called up my local fabricator to make me a custom, ANTI-XBOX, semi-transperant case, that has a sleek vertical form(like the xbox 360, but mind you, i didn't rip off the xbox 360, seeming how I did this particular work back in 2001), but with the dvd drive facing up instead of out.
It is kind of ridiculus for a CORPORATION to change the Apple logo, but if it were an individual, it's just free expression. I do that sort of custom work all the time(I own a computer repair/customizations shop). I also once was a hair slicked back-polo shirt-closed minded-type person, lol, but know I have dreds down to my shoulder blades, and a very successful business. W/e I'm rambling, but don't rag on someone just because they have taste ;P. You wouldn't beleive the looks I get in public with my machine, but that just makes me prouder, and prouder.
The design could have been better, I've done better I know that. As a matter of fact, I was trying to get some ideas when I googled it. If anyone wants to contact me, my email is above, and my website is here. I am going through some construction right now, though, trying to finish up a completely new total flash site. Give it a week or so.

Well, that sucked, they yanked my tags out. I'll post it again:

This looks really cheap and it shows that it wasn't very well thought out.
An oldschool rainbow apple logo would've looked alot better against that black glossy finish.
But who needs to mod their mac anyway? Everything about a mac is custom, right down to the keyboard and mouse. The way I see it, you really can't get any more custom than Mac.
