New Archos PMPs appear online
A trio of new PMPs from Archos have been popping up around the web courtesy of a snapshot from the Trois Suisses winter catalog, but details are still scarce as all that's known about these models comes from the little big of information we can glean from the included French description. Making matters even more confusing is the fact that the so-called 604, with its 10.9-centimeter screen and 30GB hard drive, appears to cost about $130 more than the $500 504 which has the same screen but 10GB greater capacity -- although its seemingly slimmer design may account for some of the disparity. Meanwhile, the 404 sports an identical drive to the 604, but only an 8.8-centimeter screen, and is supposedly priced at $440. Both 30GB models are said to be scheduled for a July release, while the 504 should be available in August, but we'll do our best to get specs on these before then, because we like knowing about stuff before anyone else does.[Via GenerationMP3]

Had nothing but trouble with my Archos Gmini. Archos you are dead to me!

The price difference could due to the higher-end models supporting video recording, perhaps with scheduling features and/or dock.

What I want to know is where the hell is the LG PM70? It's not even on the Microsoft site anymore that sports the Toshiba Gigabeat.

Perhaps the 604 has touchscreen Linux functionality like the PMA430, which has the same screen and looks as the av400 series?

Have a Gmini XS200 and it works beautifully...no annoying transfer software needed...looks like removable storage to your PC.

What kind of "trouble"? I'm on my third generation of Archos products and I've loved every one of them. They've slowly worked the OS bugs out and improved their fit-and-finish as well. Other than the Lion battery starting to crap out after a year+ of heavy use, my Gmini 400 is as sharp as the day I bought it.
Their lead in being ahead of the curve has dwindled as of late, they need a device in the Gmini400/iPod form-factor with a bigger screen, better battery life (removable too) and also WiFi capabilites. And they need to do it at a better price and earlier than Apple, as they've been consistently doing for many years. The PMP market is expanding though, they have many competitors now.
Long live Archos, (underground) king of PMP's and MP3 players! Down with forced corporate-friendly proprietary software.....

My AV700 rocks! 100 GBs of movies (ripped with CloneDVD mobile) all on one device with one remote. No switching DVD's out of the player.
Pure slack.

My XS200 works very well for almost 2 years now. Problem is that 20 GB is not enough anymore if you have podcasts and a large CD collection. Considering the new names and upgrades in the archos product line-up I can't wait for the "204/304" mp3 player with 40 GB+, color screen and Apple defying functionality. The 404/604 design looks already very promising.
Go Archos!
