The iJet Two-Way wireless iPod remote helps screen the Springsteen

ABT is busting out a new version of their iJet wireless remote for iPods, and this one packs in a screen for viewing whatever you're skipping around to. Hopefully this newfound track selection knowledge will protect your party from a sad musical death, and the iJet Two-Way's 150-foot range might let you grab some chips in the process. Though unfortunately the 'Pod inspired stylings don't quite lend themselves to casual flashings, so you'll have to ask yourself if the added convenience is really worth risking your cred over.

First, man (or god, as steve would say...about himself) makes the ipod.



Then, man decides that the few ounces of the device were too much to carry, so man puts down the ipod, and grabs a small remote instead.



Then, man realizes that the remote isn't as good as using the ipod itself.



So, in all his infinite wisdom, man picks up the ipod, then makes a remote the same damn size as it, and carries that around instead, forgetting the entire point of having a remote, which is to save him the burden of carrying around something so big...



But no, I get it, you want to use it on your stereo, but still, something screams "I should never have been made" about this...

Um...y'know, if you want to control your iPod and see what song is playing, there's a screen and control buttons right on the damn thing.

Not really, Brent--there are lots of situations, say, you're hosting a party and your iPod is hooked up to external speakers. You have everything on Shuffle, when your guilty pleasure, Lionel Richie's "Hello," comes on, threatening to kill the mood and drive out a few guests. With a quick reach for the remote, the next song is on ... otherwise you'd have to run across the room to get to the docked iPod ... I mean, you could create a playlist, but sometimes you just don't. If your iPod is your usual music player for external speaker sets, then this is pretty valuable, the same way your TV or DVD--or, of course, your old stereo--remotes are. If you have your external speakers where your other entertainment items are, like most people do, then you wouldn't want a wire going from there across the coffee table to your couch while you play board games or work on your laptop, right? Wires are awful. Let's get rid of them every chance we can. until reliable Bluetooth iPod-to-speaker systems are widely available, this is a good device.

I agree with Jason & Dave. I want one of these thingies. The problem is the web is loaded with hype about it but you can't actually purchase one. ABT's site refers you to a dozen stores that have never heard of the iJet Two-Way. "First I've heard of it" is the response I got from an iStore rep. Ditto from the Audio Outfitters phone salesperson. I guess this must be a mythical device or ABT is test marketing or whatever. Too bad, I woulda' bought one to take back to Argentina with me.
